Carina Lau was born on December 8, 1965 in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, China. She graduated from the TVB Artist Training Class. Her ancestral home is Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China. She is a Hong Kong actress and singer.

In 1989, Carina Lau starred in the TVB TV series "The Great Storm in Shanghai", playing two roles. In 1991, she played "Liang Fengying" in "Ashes of Time" and won the Best Actress Award at the Three Continents Film Festival in Nantes, France. In the same year, she was nominated for Best Actress at the 28th Taiwan Golden Horse Film Awards for this film. In 1998, she won the Best Actress Award at the 3rd Hong Kong Film Golden Bauhinia Awards for her role as "Yuhuan" in the film "Self-Combing". In 2007, she won the Best Actress Award at the 26th China Golden Rooster Film Awards for her role as "Qian Yu" in the film "Curiosity Killed the Cat". In 2011, she played the role of "Wu Zetian" in "Di Renjie: The Empire of Heaven" and won the Best Actress Award at the 30th Hong Kong Film Awards. In 2014, she won the Best Actress Award at the 9th Osaka Asian Film Festival for her role as a "rich lady" in "Crossing the Line". In June 2015, Carina Lau was awarded the title of Knight of the Left Bank Chateaux at Chateau Rose in France. In April 2016, Carina Lau moved into Madame Tussauds. In July, she participated in the recording of "Here We Come Season 1". In June 2017, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences officially announced that Carina Lau became a new member of the "2017 Oscars". In August, he starred in the comedy film "My Rival Son-in-law", playing the role of "Dr. Bao". On March 14, 2024, the variety show "Jia Ren Zi You Yue" in which she participated was aired.

Early experiences
Liu Jia Ling was born in Suzhou. Her family of four lives in two houses of over 20 square meters in a lane of Taohuawu. Liu Jia Ling's father was an overseas Chinese who worked for a shipping company. This identity did not bring any "benefit" to the family. On the contrary, because of the low income, Liu's father had to sell sacks outside the old city gate of Suzhou  to make a living.
Liu Jia Ling was once a gymnast. She spent her middle school years at Suzhou No. 21 Middle School. In 1980, she went to Hong Kong with her parents and graduated from the 12th TVB Artist Training Class in Hong Kong in 1984. Liu Jia Ling later entered the entertainment industry.

Character events

In August 2018, when Carina Lau was a guest on a certain variety show, she talked about the kidnapping incident she encountered 28 years ago for refusing to film a movie funded by a Mafia boss and the nude photo incident she was forced to take. She revealed that that experience had made her go through a very struggling period, but after many years, she can now face all of this calmly and said that she has forgiven everyone, including those who kidnapped her at that time
